IBO Primary Years Programme (PYP)*
An international education programme in which teachers and students explore in a transdisciplinary way the road to knowledge. Having a central axis based on the development of the child as a whole, this programme proposes an educational framework that is interesting, stimulating, relevant and committed to a structured inquiry that encourages students to act according to new perspectives and knowledge.

Northlands has a team of professional educational psychologists who assist the students in their academic, social and personal development. Their function is to, mainly, foresee any interference in the children’s learning process in order to help.

We believe the practice of physical and sports activities to be an essential part of our students’ education. Sports are introduced at an early stage with the objective of developing a sporting attitude in students, instilling fair play, respect, effort and commitment. We take part in national and international interschool events that promote team spirit and healthy competition, as a way of encouraging and celebrating the skills in each sport.

The development of the learning of IT is based on the use of the computer as didactic tool, which is used by the students not only during IT periods but also, incorporated software to all the curricular areas.

The computer is used as general support for learning, to promote creativity, for solving problems and to acquire skills related to handling educational software, word processors, graphing programmes, spreadsheets and other general application as technological resources.

In Kindergarten, specifically, the objectives will are to foster the development of reading and writing and logical-mathematical knowledge, likewise involving all the contents of the different areas of knowledge.

Within this area, students work on sounds, their parameters, figure, rhythm, melody, form and expression. They work with conventional and non-conventional musical instruments and investigate the different actions performed to produce sounds: percussion, scratching, rubbing, shaking, knocking together, blowing and plucking, together with the sound production of the body itself: palms, fingers, feet and the voice. The procedure moves between individual and group improvisation in various sound contexts.

The students prepare an annual Concert, in which they display part of the work done in this area during the year.

Instruments Kinder Level (Kinder 5)
Our music program includes the performance of an orchestra instrument which starts in Kinder with a workshop devoted to the violin.

Through the Suzuki Method (system used in these classes) the children get in acquainted with the instrument and learn to perform simple melodies. During the weekly classes they sit in a circle and they play all together. This allows them to see each other and to imitate movements and sounds of their classmates, sharing the music, appreciating it and becoming part of it.

Northlands school is a pioneer in our country with this programme as it is the first school which implemented it in its curriculum. We count on a highly qualified team of teachers to carry out this activity.

In the Kindergarten, the library is a truly special place to develop love for reading. It offers a great variety of books, both in Spanish and in English, containing fiction, non-fiction, encyclopaedias and dictionaries. All these elements are indispensable for the investigations carried out by the students.

Children go to the Library on a weekly basis in order to read books, look for information and listen to stories. On these occasions the librarian reads them a story and they are able to browse through the books. We have a lending books programme in action.
